In the decades since the first group visited Bendrigg, back in 1977, much has changed for our old ‘hunting Lodge’ and grounds. We’ve added new facilities and found new ways to enrich the lives of visitors and volunteers. With successive extensions and additions, we’ve gone from a basic centre with dormitories, to a multi-functional accessible facility with en-suite bedrooms, yurts, a sensory room, a climbing wall, a bike track and much more.
We are constantly looking to develop our site and accommodation to cater for people with a range of needs. We know that an ‘accessible site’ has a different meaning for different people; whether that be ceiling-mounted tracking hoists and profile beds, or black out blinds and acoustic panels. We hope that the information within these pages will let you know whether Bendrigg is accessible for you, but if you have any questions our friendly team is on hand to help every step of the way.
Our Action Pack is full of practical information to help you get a sense of the ‘Bendrigg experience’.
It includes :
A great introduction to Bendrigg
Whilst we always encourage people to come and see our facilities for themselves, we realise that isn’t always possible. You can get a flavour of Bendrigg thanks to our Virtual Taster, designed to help you see if our accessible accommodation and facilities are right for you and to learn more about what to expect from our courses.
Our interactive map allows you to travel around the site with a click of a button, looking at all our bedrooms, bathrooms, communal areas, activity spaces and outside areas. This is the perfect way to scope out the facilities or allow visitors to become accustomed the site before they arrive.
If videos are more your thing you can join Martha and Dom on a guided tour of our amazing facilities including accommodation areas, activities and the wider grounds.
We offer a variety of accessible activities either on site at our centre in Old Hutton, Kendal, Cumbria or offsite in the nearby National Parks. Our extensive onsite facilities offer the opportunity for outdoor and indoor adventures with activities such as zip wiring, indoor caving, progressive climbing, abseiling, tube sliding, arts and crafts, orienteering, archery and bushcraft. We can also take groups offsite in our accessible minibuses to experience activities such as canoeing, caving, climbing, gorge walking and fell walking.
Our friendly team are on hand every step of the way to guide you through the bookings process, give you the warmest of welcomes and make sure that you have a fabulous time!
